Hello, Republicans in Washington and everywhere else, I hope you are all well tonight.
I decided to write this after reading "It's not Congress that's dysfunctional—it's the Republican Party" By David Nir, and wondering, seriously, do you guys up there who keep saying things like "The other party does it too!", do you guys ever stop to wonder about what we think down here?
And I do mean about all of it.
Well, if you are curious as to how this little guy sees much of what's going on up there, come below the fold and find out.
It might interest you.
Okay, I'm going to be right up front with you. I'm what they call a liberal leaning independent. I stay independent because I don't think either of the two parties have it all down pat or will provide all of the solutions needed. I want to leave myself the option of voting for a Republican or Green if their policies impress me. Enough to that.
So, what DOES the little guy think?
To be dead honest, he thinks you think he's stupid. Now, that is a pretty serious thing. You know, I didn't say it, I'm not the one who stood up and said "I will do all I can to make sure Mister Obama is a one term president." I really didn't.
But I heard it and saw it on the tube and unfortunately, as little and inconsequential as I am, father of four and at work every day, a veteran and all that- I can't forget it.
It leaps to mind when someone, a Republican, works to shut down the government just when this NATION needs every positive it can get to happen for it so we can heal and hopefully prosper. No, you guys shut down the government. That you apparently expect me to forget it makes me think you believe you are dealing with an imbecile.
Do you see where I'm going here?
This independent, he hears someone else say "Rape can be a blessing from God" and he just shakes his head. I have daughters. If somebody is moved by God to impregnate one of my daughters through the blessing of rape, know what, I'm most likely going to be moved by my Goddess to find him and make sure he can't do that to anyone ever again.
Rape, it's just wrong, and this little guy figures, no matter how much you hate abortion- if you can condone rape, you are a pretty nasty sort of being.
Again, I didn't say these things, and there were many of them, nor did I see anyone twisting arms to get it said either.
And this independent looks up from his eighteen year old son as he looks at his first paycheck and says "That's it? that's all I get after working all week?" And he remembers saying the same damn thing when he was a little younger than the boy is now. I look at you guys and your stance on the minimum wage and I wonder. Do you really, really believe I'm stupid? Of course a minimum wage works! And of course it has to provide a wage that can support a family. Trying to convince me of anything else is what is stupid. You know, we all, out here in little land, we balance budgets daily too, we can do math, we understand why you fight it, but we also understand you aren't fighting because you feel it's right. No, we little guys feel it's because you've sold yourselves to "The Interested". There has been a minimum wage all of my life, and yet, there is still business in America. Any business pissed off enough by higher wages that they want to leave this richest of markets can, as far as we are concerned. If they go, then block them out of the market for a decade. Done.
Then we have that whole religion thing. Let's talk about that. See, we don't HAVE to be enemies, but you are making one of me with your insistence on being my enemy!
What would it take to back it all down? It's a very simple thing. Stop trying to get the theocracy. I know, I know, you will say you aren't DOING that and I will look at you all goggle eyed and ask again, do you think I'm stupid?
I see no respect in your party, anywhere, for any religion that isn't your own! I've LOOKED! I don't want my beliefs put on a pedestal, I don't want yours there either, I don't want there to be a pedestal! I don't want ANY God or Goddess in our laws. I damn sure don't want them making our laws, not even by proxy. This little independent voter guy, he just wants you to keep America's promise. Ignore and tolerate me as I sit in front of a tree and burn sage and I'll ignore and tolerate you as you worship in your church. I'll even be happy for you that you found that support.
Can you do that?
Our Earth. You know, it doesn't take much to look around at our world and see there's something bad beginning. Everyone I speak to among us little guys agrees to that, and we aren't scientists either. But, to us little people, it seems to make more sense to run to put out the fire in our house before having a debate on who did it.
You dither, to our mind for the worst of reasons, then turn about and ask us to trust you.
It's difficult, you know? Part of trust is saying "This guy can get the job done as well or better as I can, lets send him there."
I can't say that. I don't WANT to wait so long for proof that the shit's getting deep that I forget to start climbing out of it. Or start climbing too late to do any good. There's money involved, I get that. Most of the really ill effects will be post my demise, I get that too. That's not enough reason not to be responsible and yes, I am ANGRY with you about this.
Even a dog is too smart to shit in it's own nest, damn it! Come to your senses!
I do apologize, but you are risking EVERYTHING.
Err on the side of caution for a change.
Race, guys, it's a no brainer. I'm an American, no matter what color or origin I have.
Just... fucking evolve on this one, yes?
Equal pay
Wars of aggression are bad
Ending the Drug War
Fixing Wall Street
Helping Police get back to where they need to be
There are so many things I could tell you, things that bother us, too many to list here- and I may, I may come back and take up some of those topics.
But hey, it's been good talking.
Best of evenings to you.
