In a few short weeks we will be facing another manufactured crisis and another shutdown.
This is the second time in American History that a conservative extremist faction in congress was trying to destroy the nations constitutional system by holding the government finances hostage in order to “Force” their will on the Executive Branch of our government. The last time in history it was the Democrats.
It has Often been said that unless the lessons of History are learned, History is Doomed to repeat itself. That statement has Never been driven home with such terrifying clarity as it is until we look into the elements and political changes following America’s first great Depression, the Panic of 1873
Economic Historians still debate the underlying causes of this “Great Depression in in the Americas and the globe, Some relate it to Post-war inflation, rampant speculative investments (overwhelmingly in railroads), a large trade deficit, ripples from economic dislocation in Europe resulting from the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), property losses in the Chicago (1871) and Boston (1872) fires, and other factors put a massive strain on bank reserves, which plummeted in New York City during September and October 1873 from $50 million to $17 million.
Then, they had a craze goingon in railroad investment that was driven by government land grants and subsidies to the railroads. At that time, the railroad industry was the nation's largest employer outside of agriculture, and it involved large amounts of money and risk. A large infusion of cash from speculators caused abnormal growth in the industry as well as overbuilding of docks, factories and ancillary facilities. At the same time, too much capital was involved in projects offering no immediate or early returns creating a “Railroad Bubble”.
It does not take much if a leap to see the comparison between todays “Housing Bubble” and the “Railroad bubble” of 1873. Both were the results of risky investments and both led to the complete collapse of the economy.
Jay Cooke & Company, the main Railroad Bubble player was the Lehman Brothers of their day.
Needless to say, Jay Cooke and Company Failed just as Leman Brothers did, having invested heavily in the railroads “Bubble” of that day found themselves stuck with several million dollars in Northern Pacific Railway bonds that they couldn't market so they failed. The Failure of Cooke & Co. triggered a chain reaction in the banking industry of their day. You know how the rest of the story went, global chain reaction, bla, bla.
Please head below the orange mushroom cloud to get to the important part
The embittered Post-Civil war Dixie-crats saw the 1879 economic Crisis and the resulting public disparity as their chance to retake the Country with a clever Political coup d'etat using almost the exact same methodology that todays “Freedom caucus is deploying in their “revolution.
The 1879 revolutionaries had a simple plan; they would defund the government until they got their way. These radical conservatives who already had a “Very weak” speaker of the house set about the task of defunding the government by, guess what, attaching riders to a series of routine appropriations bills, one after the other. These riders ended military protection in the South for African American voting.
Today’s “Radical” conservative element is actively seeking a sufficiently “Weak “Speaker to carry out their nearly identical plan with a few modernization tweaks of the plan such as a conservative supreme court and deep plant operatives pushing other hot point issues to keep the base fired up until the “Takeover” is complete.
Basically the riders in the 1879 revolutionary plan would reestablished white supremacy in the whole United States. The Dixie-crats were counting on president Hayes, who had fought them to protect the U.S. government on the battlefields of the Civil war, to fold to their demands.
But in there case, their gamble didn't pay off. Hays called their bluff and the government shut down for four months, which is what I fear Obama shall have to do to address todays uprising.
The minority leader of the House in 1879, James Garfield, explained to a friend his feelings on the matter at hand, “They will let the government perish for want of supplies.” He continued: “If this is not revolution … which if persisted in will destroy the government, [then] I am wholly wrong in my conception of both the word and the thing.”
Make no mistake, the “Freedom caucus” of some 43 “secretive” conservative congressmen are plotting the same destruction of our constitutional system of government, replacing it with a mob rule of some 43 or is it 47 “Secretive” and quite possibly traitorous representatives along with a few behind the curtain Oligarchs.
Even the RNC Chairman Reince Priebus admitted that the Republican Party will be “cooked” and in a hole for a long time if they don’t win the White House in 2016.
It has long been believed, that the only thing that separates a Hero from a Traitor is who wins the war.
In the next few days we will see this “war” unfold as the House “Freedom caucus” locates the sufficiently “Weak” Speaker to do their bidding. It is no surprise that they are having a hard time to find anybody to take the position of point man for them should their “minority takeover” of the Republican Party and then the United States Government fail as it did in 1876.
The Freedom Caucus is a clear and present danger to our form of Constitutional Democracy. They sincerely believe they have found a way for their Radical Conservative minority to rule our country from within the folds of the Larger republican party and thereby bypassing the checks and balances system of the three branches of our government.
They must be stopped even if it means shutting down the government it is going to take both republicans and democrats to get them out of our government in 2016 just as it did in 1879. This means every body must vote against the "Freedom Caucus" or any other RWNJ or lose your country...
