In what may be a sign of his own frustration with his non-starter of a candidacy, Martin O'Malley decided it was time to make age an issue in the 2016 Campaign.
Former Maryland Gov. O'Malley said he knows Biden well and has a "tremendous amount of affection and respect for him," according to Politico.
However, O'Malley cited Biden's age, 72, as a drawback. If the VP decided to run and was elected, he would be the oldest President in U.S. history. Same for Hillary Clinton, who is now 67.
"If he were to get into this race, he certainly would bring a lot of experience and that perspective, but I think his generation is already overly represented in our party in this field," O'Malley said.
I hope that O'Malley is not running just so he can get more buzz for his band. He did cover a Taylor Swift song on The View. I just saw that video of Marty's performance. My advice is that he shouldn't quit his day job - whatever that is.
Attacking your opponents for their chronological age is not likely to help O'Malley's anemic poll numbers. I can't believe that this is a deliberate attempt to bring ageism into the race. But I must say that if one wants to make age an issue, it is usually a good idea to use a surrogate to plant the seed. It could be that Marty doesn't have any surrogates - at least not the type of surrogate who is willing to insult the age cohort that votes in the highest numbers.
It seems that all O'Malley has to offer is his relative youth, he's 52, not exactly a kid. He's old enough for AARP. Perhaps its time for Marty O'Malley to go home and practice, practice, practie. He needs work on both his guitar chops and his political skills.
