Received this e-mail today from Rep. Tammy Duckworth's (D. IL) U.S. Senate campaign:
My first State of the Union guest as a Member of Congress was Denise Reed, a Chicago mother who lost her daughter, a 14-year old honor roll student named Starkesia, to gun violence.
That was in 2013, not long after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. It’s unconscionable that now, nearly 3 years later and with far too many more lives lost, Congress still has yet to pass gun safety legislation.
A group of Democratic Senators are renewing the push for reform by introducing new common sense legislation to prevent gun violence. Tell Congress it’s time to act.

While Illinois has long had robust safeguards to ensure that criminals and the dangerously mentally ill cannot purchase guns, keeping Illinoisans safe also requires that we stem the flow of illegal guns from neighboring states.
No one should be able to buy a gun without a background check. We also must crack down on illegal gun trafficking and straw purchases. These are sensible solutions that will save lives, and Congress has already delayed long enough.
We cannot stop demanding action on this issue until the job is done. Add your name now in support of gun safety legislation:
