Are you part of a polling panel or panels, but haven't been asked to complete a political poll recently? Have you asked why they don't want your data?
These are my questions. The best answers to some of them should come from those studying current political polls, not those doing them.
For some polls, identifying yourself as a strong supporter of your party is enough to exclude you, but some polls are getting more particular.
1. Do you vote in primaries?
2. Will you vote in your next party primary?
3. Do you check the news more than once a day by radio, TV, Internet?
4. Have you signed petitions to legislators and officials during the past year?
5. Have you sent letters and/or emails to your officials during the past year?
6. Have you visited officials’ or legislators’ offices during the past year?
7. Have you given $$ to any campaign & or advocacy group within the past year?
8. Have you participated in a political rally or demonstration at any of your representative’s offices or a Government building during the past year?
9. Have you communicated with an official’s office staff during the past year?
10. Have you telephoned or faxed any of your officials’ offices during the past year on any policy matter?
11. Have you volunteered for a political campaign in the past year?
12. Have you ever worked for a political campaign? Have you worked for a campaign during the past year?
13. Have you hosted a campaign event (debate viewing party, discussion group, etc.) in your home during the past year?
Do you notice a resemblance to jury questionnaires & voir dire screening?
The standard necessary questions for every poll, phone, online, must be asked.
Who paid for the poll?
Who wrote the poll questions?
Who arranged the question order?
Why aren’t they pollsters reporting larger universes?
For Post-Debate polls -
Why the discrepancy in numbers between those actually watched most or the whole debate(s) vs. those didn’t watch any or only highlights on media other than the broadcast originator?
Will academics/statisticians please check to see if these polls meet best practice standards?
For the polling experts: What questions should voters be asking about polls and polling data???
