My wife and I watched Bernie on 'The View" this morning. We noted that Bernie doesn't directly answer questions and when he does he often confuses his audience. As an example, the Republican on the panel asked how Bernie would pay for his planned increase in Social Security benefits. We both thought it was a reasonable question. He didn't answer her question. She again asked and then he replied "by raising the cap on taxes". They then went to break.
I asked my wife, who is fairly well read, if she could explain what Bernie meant by "raising the cap on taxes". She said that she had no idea and added that it's probably true of almost all of the viewers. I agreed. We discussed the fact that it sounds like he is going to raise the social security tax on everyone. I said that it just means those making more than $118,500 will be required to pay more into Social Security. She asked why didn't he just did say that!
Excellent point. Why didn't Bernie just say that?
