This move by the house Oversight and Government Reform Committee came just four days after the Justice Department announced it was closing its investigation of the IRS’s handling of nonprofit groups without bringing criminal charges.
Republican Committee Chairman Jason complained in a news release that the IRS had not complied with congressional subpoenas, documents were destroyed and the public was misled as the reason for the impeachment resolution being filed. Republicans have been after Koskinen since July, feeling that he had not fully cooperated with their attempt to smear the Obama administration during the 2013 election cycle claiming that the IRS had displayed bias for the left in their 501c non-profits application approvals and spot checks.
The Republicans are now claiming that their favored smear tool "impeachment" , is “the correct tool to restore public trust in the IRS and to protect the institutional interest of congress “
Many feel the true intent is to throw doubt on any future election spending investigations that the IRS might initiate in the 2016 election spending cycle.
