Well, as you know, many of us that forced ourselves to watch last night’s republican food fight were shocked to discover that the leading Republican Candidate, Ben Carson has indulged in a bit of snake oil salesmanship.
Much like the controversy stirred up by another famous Doctor, Dr. Oz, who trigged the ire of fellow Medical professionals a few years back for “Quack treatments and cures” it would seem that the Republican’s own Dr Ben is guilty of promoting “Doctor feel-goods wild root remedy” as well.
One of the more exciting moments of last night’s Debate was when CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla experienced a moment un-characteristic to CNBC, of journalistic integrity, and confronted Doctor Ben about his relationship to the seedy multilevel nutritional supplement firm, Mannatech.
Mannatech who just recently paid $7 million dollars to settle deceptive advertising charges has faced scrutiny over its claims that some of its products could cure everything from cancer to autism. Multilevel companies like Mannatech prey or the poor, desperate and gullible, much like the republican party does, by promising un-told wealth if they only hawk the product and recruit others to do the same.
Doctor Ben instantly began stumbling for answers to the relevant question Quintanilla ask : Why would he continue to be involved with such a company?
Luckily, Doctor Ben was saved from completely answering the question by the Republican and tea party stacked audience, that Booed, jeered and Shamed Quintanilla for daring to ask a question that could have led to self-incrimination in front of the nation.
The wall Street Journal has cataloged Carson’s relationship with Mannatech in some detail showing Carson’s involvement if the industry.
For now, we are sure that Doctor Oz and Doctor Ben share a common history of promoting “quack treatments and cures"
One can only wonder what "quack treatments and cures" the good Doctor will be offering our nation in the future? not forgetting of course, to sweeten the bait with promises of income–equality and prosperity for all, if we only Vote for the Republican brand…
