How does a man speak out against Hillary, without the sexist card getting thrown, like a penalty flag?
Perhaps by prefacing with the fact that I was hoping, against hope, to see Elizabeth Warren run...or, maybe, by mentioning my disdain for many of Bill Clinton's policies (the repercussions of many not coming to light until much later). I could even throw in my disappointment for Barack Obama's war hawk foreign policies.
All this being said, my fears are that Hillary Clinton will win the nomination for all the wrong reasons. Chief among them is that she will be nominated, simply because she is a woman.
After jumping the hurdle of electing the first African-American president, there is, of course, a natural tendency to want the first female president to be next. Personally, I would love to see it...provided she is the right candidate for the job. I am sorry to say, Hillary Clinton is not.
I do not want this campaign to be a men vs. women battle royale. HRC would love for that to happen. She has already thrown the first volley of sexism accusations. Not at the misogynistic GOP clown car, but at Bernie Sanders. A man dedicated to the rights of ALL citizens. She would love nothing better than to divide us by gender, making men the enemy that would topple her.
My plea is very simple to all of the women voters out there (yes, men, too): this election is about some very important issues, which we need to fix immediately. Education...eliminating for-profit prisons...breaking the oligarchy that is crippling our economy and buying our elections...de-militarizing out police force...bringing jobs back to our country.
If, putting emotions aside, you truly believe that Hillary Clinton can accomplish these things, based on her record and who is funding her campaign, then vote for her, by all means.
I only ask that you consider Bernie Sanders' record, as well...and ask yourselves whether a man, who wants to better the lives of ALL Americans, might not just be the better solution for bettering the lives of all women, as well.
