Ginger (in the back) and her brother in Heaven, Eeyore
On Sunday, Ginger got sick and we had to go to the vet. She was crying in distress and couldn't walk straight.
As it turned out, the only thing they found was a loose tooth and a gum infection and resultant dehydration. She's now on antibiotics and fluids. When she feels better, she'll need a tooth cleaning and more antibiotics.
I chose my vet because he's one of those who does his own emergencies. So he was willing to come in on his day off and will run a tab for a short period of time. At this point, with using the after-hours lab for tests, the bill stands at $797. I am still living paycheck to paycheck, but gave him a $100 down payment from money that I'd saved to pay for my health insurance, and he's willing to wait until our next visit near the end of the month for the rest.
He wants the rest of the $800 before he'll perform the cleaning, which ideally should be done as soon as she comes off the antibiotics. Note: This took place a couple of days ago. elena still has to pay for it. (JnH)
The tooth cleaning and additional antibiotics will cost about another $500, he said. Then he'll want to see her about a month after that for a checkup, which will include another round of lab tests so will cost about $200. Another $300 or so are needed to ensure that Oreo's teeth are cleaned before I am hit with another unexpected vet bill. So the total costs will be about $1,850, assuming nothing else is wrong.
Of course I don't have the money, I've only had my current job for a short period of time, not paid enough to build any reserves yet. I hate to ask the community for help again when so many people are in need, but Ginger is the other half of my brain and I'd be mentally lost without her. Just last week, she found my cellphone for me when I'd lost it.
