I was in shock, as I’m sure many others are, about the shooting on Nov. 3 in Marksville, LA.
For those that are unaware, 2 deputies chased down a man. When he ended up on a dead end street and backed up to turn around, the 2 officers shot the vehicle 18 times. A third officer’s body cam showed the man was unarmed and had his hands up. The tragedy is that his 6-year-old son was also in the truck and was killed. The man, Chris Few, is in the hospital and still has no idea his son is dead.
The reason for the pursuit is under investigation as the driver had no warrants. It’s beginning to look like one of the officers had a personal grudge.
The officers are black, the driver white.
The police department there took the high road and called the state police to handle the investigation to eliminate even a hint of scandal or favoritism. The local DA is related to one of the accused officers and has recused himself and contacted the state attorney general to appoint a prosecutor for the case. www.cbsnews.com/… For more info.
Both men are currently being held on 1 milliion dollar bond each.
This is a tragedy but also shows at least some police departments have enough sense to handle the investigation properly.
