The #BlackLivesMatters Minneapolis organization has been protesting at the North side's 4th Police Precinct for three days. Last Friday Jamar Clark was shot by police, and at first it was believed he was in handcuffs when he was shot. The circumstances surrounding his death are still very unclear. Vann R. Newkirk II wrote a good diary about the Clark shooting here: 4th Precinct
Today the Minneapolis police brought in a SWAT team to break up the the #BLM protest and encampment around the 4th precinct. Initial reports indicate the the Mayor, Betsy Hodges, was in a meeting with members of the #BLM group at the time of the SWAT raid. Members are not amused.
There has been little or no press coverage in the Twin Cities except for the "successful removal of the protesters" earlier today. The protest has never ended, however. The protesters have surrounded again the precinct after their encampment was torn down, and since nightfall there have been several instances of chemical attacks (it appears to be pepper spray) and at least one use of rubber bullets.
I was wondering why there is no coverage here on Daily Kos, and I realized well, probably anyone who could do post coverage is still at the event.
