Before I start, what happened to that student courtesy of Officer "Slam" what reprehensible and undeserved unless she was violent, which she wasn't.
That being said, she's not an angel in this case. As a teacher observing the whole thin, the student did a lot of things she shouldn't have that earned her a visit to the office. She took out a phone then put it away. Why did she take it out in class? The teacher asked her to give it to him, to minimize distraction in the classroom I'm sure. She refused claiming she did nothing wrong. She's now interrupted the classroom flow. When she refused, the teacher sent for the vice principle. She again refused to follow directions, insisting she'd done nothing wrong.
At this point, the vice principle made a big mistake. All he and the teacher had to do, at this point, was ignore her and wait until the class period ended. At that point, she would have had to get up to leave the room. The vice principle should have waited for her outside the room and then escorted her to the office. Situation handled.
Instead, she's gotten attention for refusing to follow teacher and administration instructions. Escalating it to where they used the school resource officer was wrong on all levels since she wasn't violent. The officer isn't there to enforce classroom discipline but protect students from violence and law breakers, such as drug dealers.
So, there is more than enough blame to go around, starting with the teacher and admin that chose to escalate the situation rather than handling it more quietly.
