ISIS leaders may be drugging fighters before battle
Let's look at this pragmatically. If ISIS leadership is literally abusing, recruiting, training and drugging its fighters into battle machines, wouldn't forcing traumatized ISIS victims back into Syria simply provide ISIS with more human resources to exploit for its purposes?
Yes, we invite a small risk by carefully screening and welcoming Syrian immigrants who have escaped the war zone. But we may catalyze ISIS' continued abuses and global threat by doing the opposite. I would rather our nation take a responsible risk, than succumb to fear and knowingly help create the worst possible outcome for all of us.
And that is just the pragmatic view. I choose the compassionate view that considers the well-being of my fellow humans. The vast majority of immigrants are innocent victims needing refuge, care and support. Yes, we need to protect ourselves from the terrorist minority, so let's do that too. My compassion tells me we can do both; if we say otherwise, we are denying the best of what we claim we stand for.
