The question is not directed to Donald Trump, but to those who claim to be his supporters. Unfortunately, it is not one that our media, or pollsters, can ask. However, it really does get to the point.
The unlikely support that Trump continues to enjoy in the polls is the result of one of three things, or a combination thereof:
A) 30% of GOP poll respondents support Trump
B) GOP folks really like to irritate liberals and people who take polls
C) They are idiots, but few will actually show up and vote for Trump.
When conducting a poll, very few qualifying questions are asked, and little of it can be verified. We still have a little privacy, after all: Things such as, “Did you vote Democrat or Republican” in the last election cannot be proven. Hell, pollsters cannot even verify whether a person is a registered voter in sufficient time for a poll to be newsworthy, although they usually use qualified voters as a base pool.
The point here, though, is that a pollster cannot ask, “Really? Really truly? Do you double-dog promise that you actually mean what you are saying and you aren’t just fucking with me because you love how much Donald Trump is irritating the liberals and making the media go nuts? Are you serious? Will you really vote for him?”
Remember- these are people who can’t find Iraq, Turkey, England or China on a map. Hell- they would be hard-pressed to name a continent. Probably couldn’t even find coffee in their own town if their GPS isn’t working.
Yes- they are idiots. No- they won’t vote … or at least not in sufficient numbers that Trump will ever be close to the Oval Office.
