I do, however, fear him!
Many years ago, the first time I used the word “Nazi” on DailyKos, I was temporarily blocked from postings. I used that word to describe one, or more than one Republican; a politician of the GOP persuasion. I was trying to explain that I felt the Republicans were the logical successors to the Nazi Party, who rose to prominence in WWII because nobody took them seriously.
After a short while I was allowed to post again.
Nowadays it is commonplace for people to use the word Nazi in reference to the leaders and candidates of the Republican Party.
Recently a Kos article mentioned Trump and the word Nazi in the same lead, or title. Donald Trump has gone full Nazi
May I congratulate both the author and Kos for allowing the usage. I believe that what is critical to remember – right now – is that like pre-WWII Germany, while Hitler was becoming the madman we now know he was, Donald Trump is following a similar course in the GOP, as the leading candidate for President in the Circus of Oddities!
And, frighteningly, like in Germany back then – nearly one hundred years ago – nobody seems to be taking Trump seriously. We all laugh at how he mugs for the cameras, how he has a thick New York accent, which he uses to shout people down. We talk about him being remarkably like his Apprentice show, late of NBC.
Well here it is: like the situation with Hitler, where people thought he couldn’t possibly become all that dangerous or worth the effort to stop him, Trump is being held in the same regard. Trump’s just going to go away, we all say, with his ideas of a National Database of Citizens, his internment camps, like what was done to Japanese Americans during WWII, his ideas of people having to wear colors or other ways to identify into which “group” they fall.
Remember? The only thing necessary for evil to succeed is for good people do nothing! If we don’t take Trump seriously, right now - if we don’t do anything - we may look back at a complete loss of all of our Civil Rights. All our freedoms, won with sweat and blood over a long period of forward progress for The United States of America will be taken away, one at a time, or in bunches.
We will end up being run by a mirror image of Putin; a sullen, megalomaniacal monster who will find ways to eliminate anybody who expresses an opinion different from his.
Vote as if your life depends upon it; it does. Speak to friends, neighbors, and strangers even, whenever you have the opportunity. Keep it light, in the sense that you open the conversation if they start talking about Trump, by asking if they heard the latest travesty from Trump, about the camps, about the tags, the database, etc.
Be afraid. Be very afraid! Once trump — or one of the gop lap dogs like him - is elected potus, we won’t have a second chance to preserve our freedom.
