I don’t care what anyone says – it may be better than no beer and it may be better for me than full tasting calorie and alcohol laden full bodied beer. I don’t like it and I should not have to settle for it. That said I sometimes do drink it when I’m at a friends and it’s what their serving – and because dang it - it is better for me. But I don’t have to go out and buy it. I sure don’t have to go out and tell others how good it is. I really don’t have to go tell others why they have to buy it.
So why should I have to do the same for a politician?
If a candidate for office goes the light route and tries to tinker with things but not really change anything when I really like the idea of change why on earth should I go racing out to support them and say “great idea – what a leader they’ll be”. If a candidate says look I’ll make things better but has a history of not making things better (or making wrong decisions that make them worse) why should I go telling everyone hey you have no choice but to support this candidate. If a candidate spends most of their time hanging out with the very people who have damaged the country in my mind why should I say well at least it won’t get worse under their leadership (when I really believe it might).
It’s the Supreme Court stupid! – I know and that may be the only thing that gets me to vote for Hillary Clinton. I don’t want a progressive lite, or a liberal light, or a democrat lite and I will not go out of my way to get one.
I want my full bodied Shipyard Export and a candidate who will work with me to expand social security. I will tell everyone I know that Dogfish Head makes and awesome 90 minute IPA and I will tell them that there is a candidate who will actually enforce banking regulations and actively pursue income equality. I will cross my state line to find a St. Peter’s Best Bitter (and probably the next state line too if that’s what it takes) and I will work my ass off to make sure that everyone around me (especially the republicans around me who espouse honesty) know that there is a candidate who actually hold true to their words.
No offense to anyone here but don’t come telling me your candidate can win and expect me to get excited. Come showing me how they have behaved in the past and why they should have the opportunity and let me decide. Will they leave a great taste in my mouth or merely a lingering flavor of nice try but I think I’ll skip it next time.
Now I really think it's time for a Rebel IPA and a good bonfire - it's high time to "Feel the Bern".
