On Tuesday, we had an election in Virginia and while Democrats didn't pick up enough votes to take back the state senate, we did pick up a few house seats and in my county, three supervisor seats. I am disappointed because until we take back the state senate, we have no chance of medicaid expansion in Virginia, which leaves 400,000 people with no health insurance.
The organization 90 for 90's goal is to register at least 90 new voters in each precinct in Virginia.
If ALL volunteers and candidates worked together to register 90 new voters in each of the Commonwealth's precincts, our efforts would result in a quarter million new voters for the Old Dominion.
There is also
DK Fans of 90 for 90 here on Daily Kos which is supporting that goal.
Generally, the more people that vote, the more likely we are to have a Democratic win. The only way we're going to make real headway is to register more voters and get more voters to turn out to vote. The time to start getting people to vote in the upcoming election in 2016 is now.
I've been registering voters since I moved to Virginia seven years ago. In July of 2013, a law was enacted that requires all individuals or organizations who conduct voter registration drives to register and complete Department of Elections certified training. When I first heard about this law I thought it was just another obstacle the republican controlled legislature was throwing at us, but actually, it's not a bad idea, it keeps helps us to be able to speak knowledgeably about the voter process to those we are helping to register. And it's not that hard to do.
I am urging everyone who is Virginia Kos and DK Fans of 90 for 90 to do the training whether you plan to participate in voter registration drives or not. It will only take 30 minutes of your time and it will give you useful information.

I suggest you take the online training:

I asked the Registrar for my county if you need to be a resident of Virginia to conduct voter registration drives and she said that she hasn't be informed of anything that indicates you need to be a Virginia resident. So if you live in Maryland, DC, or a surrounding county and want to help with this, please take the training.
