I had looked at the beta periodically as they were working on it, and I must say I wasn’t a fan originally. But they spent months on it, and most of the complaints were addressed. I half expected when the DK5 went live that people would would actually be happy with it. Oh naive you little me. I don’t have much of a problem with the white space; if you wanted to see bad white space you should have seen the initial iterations of the beta. I love the new site.
I thought I’d give people a space to post everything they love about the new site. Try to only be positive; there are other diaries to complain in. I’ll start:
I love the keyboard navigation of the comments and the new comment function. New comment functionality was virtually nonexistent in dk4. There was no way to mark old comments as read without reloading, and that would still leave old comments as new that showed up while you were reading. You’d almost have to reload twice in succession. And why would you want to reload at all if new comments are supposed to show up without reloading? DK5 just works. I can sit with one finger on ‘j’ and the other on ‘r/f’ and quickly cycle through all the new comments including the ones that show up mid-cycle. It will also make it much easier to recommend comments just by hitting f.
Go.
