I’ve drafted a petition to try to stop it. Here’s the full text:
In the wake of the tragic mass shooting at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. church in Charleston, SC, by a white supremacist terrorist, a groundswell of opposition to the Confederate flag finally forced its removal from a place of prominence on the SC Statehouse grounds. Now, lawmakers are considering a plan to spend $5.3 million to once again honor the flag by making unnecessary renovations to the SC Confederate Military Museum, where it is to be housed, at a cost of more than five times that spent to construct the African American monument. You can read more about the plan here:

Space should be made for the flag in a museum at minimum expense to the taxpayers, where it should be displayed for purely educational (and not honorific) purposes. Also, the flag's display ought to be accompanied by signage and educational materials relating to the history of slavery, the brutality of Jim Crow, and the use of the flag as a symbol of opposition to Civil Rights. Educational materials ought also reflect the fact that the flag has been used as a rallying banner for white supremacist terrorist violence against African Americans, long before the murders of nine innocent people at Mother Emanuel. We petition the SC State Legislature to oppose the elaborate, expensive, and unnecessary renovations being proposed to the S.C. Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, and to finally put an end to the glorification of a flag that is synonymous with slavery and racism.
Please lend a hand by signing the petition and sharing it on social media:
