Just In Case You Forgot…
I’m a member here. I may have gotten directions wrong, or made a wrong turn somewhere along the way. Here’s the scoop.
I am an American Citizen. I am a Democrat. I am a Progressive. I am disabled. I am an American Military Veteran. I am a writer.
Am I in the right place?
I vaguely remember the long past ideation of what was once referred to as a “Pie Fight”! I must say that I am not inclined to the seemingly growing repeat. Vigorous debate is one thing. Simple ugliness is something else again. I thought we had kind of a community agreement not to have another.
Behave. The words you create are read by millions of American citizens—and world citizens. Many of those readers not only disagree with our principles and values, but our polity, our policy and our desires as a community for the betterment of our nation.
They love nothing more than pointing to your words here. The salad you are serving up delights their appetites. Many of the words I have read here today belie everything I stand for. In fact, what I stand for seems to have nearly disappeared from these pages.
We have sufficient need to stand up, and speak out. OUT THERE! Screaming at each other is just ineffective. Our digits and pixels are being wasted. I believe we are here to have a positive impact on ourselves, each other, and our nation. In fact, I’m pretty sure of it.
Here’s an idea for a holiday gift each one of us can give that will make this place, and everyone in it a little better before the end of the year.
Between December 28th, and December 31st (my birthday, in fact), make certain you are both registered and qualified to vote in the upcoming General Elections in 2016. Then: make sure someone else is. Just one someone else.
Before you care how they vote, you really must care that they vote. To do so, they must be registered, and qualified to vote. Let’s take that step first.
You, and one other, registered and qualified to vote in 2016. By December 31st, 2015. Reply here with a comment letting us know you did so, with one other.
If that’s just too much to ask, what are you wasting your life writing such words of hate to each other for?
Happy Holidays, Democrats.
