I am not a user of social media so how DK5 makes it easier (or not) to interact with Facebook, Twitter, and the like has never concerned me. Since the infliction implementation of DK5, I’ve not been around as much but in my limited forays, I’m seeing an increase in the number of one sentence “diaries” or maybe they should be called “Tweeteries” [“Deets”? “Dweets”? “Twies?]. Have to admit that last one sounds more like Elmer Fudd describing Redwoods.
I remember in the good old days under DK3, more people would call you out if you wrote a sentence, single thought, or just block quoted a source while including no original content. Longer diaries were also the norm because you were limited to one per day and who wants to waste it on “HEY, CLICK HERE!!”? Once that restriction was lifted in DK4, there were a few more diaries which could be classified as content free zones but nothing like what I seem to be observing recently. At times, the one word or sentence diary can be powerful but I prefer not to be sent elsewhere to eventually get the point someone is trying to make. Same thing goes for embedded video with no context or comment.
Is this a trend observed by anyone else? If so, is it a good thing or something to be discouraged?
Disclaimer: I have little knowledge of Twitter and for the longest time wondered why Kossacks were always putting “number signs” in front of Occupy Wall Street diaries. Even the tags now have “number signs”
BTW, This is my first diary in DK5 and someone seems to have swiped the Preview button. Anyone know where I can find it?
