The internet is a wonderful place and a great source of information when handled with care. However it is always possible to find someone else as mind boggling idiotic as yourself. In most cases the stupidity is pretty harmless, sometimes with such subjects as climate change and vaccination it can cause real harm. No, I am not arguing for censorship, I believe internet usage and it's possible pitfalls should be taught in schools and universities.
1] How to do an internet search, what key words are useful.
2] How to determine a reliable source, e.g. cross referencing.
3] How to find peer reviews of published papers.
4] Are politics and or money a determining factor in the view presented.
5] How to find out who funded the research and what if any interest the financiers have in the end result.
6] Is a conspiracy much more fun and or alarming than the simple explanation.
I could go on, but with the internet being both a useful tool and a scourge I think it is high time a user manual was produced.
