Last round of polling on the location for our meetup on Saturday, February 14.
The prompt for having an event then is to piggy-back on the Michigan Democratic Party statewide convention, to be held that day at Cobo Center. Of course, you needn't attend the MDP event to take part in our meetup. It does, however, play a role in our restaurant choices.
Tonight, we're down to two:
Slows BarBQ 2138 Michigan Avenue In a city with many good BBQ places, this is one of the best. Reasonable prices, and options for vegetarians, too. Full bar. Reservations possible for a group 6 or larger.
Taqueria Mi Pueblo, 7278 Dix.
Mexican, full bar. Very highly rated. Inexpensive. Reservations possible.
PS--Don't forget to join us this evening starting at 7:45 for the third installment of the Motor City Kossacks-hosted Book Club. We're discussing Thomas Sugrue's important history of Detroit, The Origins of the Urban Crisis. The first diary of the series is here. The second installment is here. And the third one is here.
PPS--I am working on an extended diary to report on the sad but not surprising news that no charges are to be brought against David Ried, the Ann Arbor police officer who shot and killed Aura Rosser last November 9th. There are a lot of relevant links, and I don't want to shoehorn it into an Open Thread. With luck, I'll post it tomorrow.
