Ever since Jon Stewart announced that he was leaving the Daily Show, there has been much debate, both here and elsewhere, about who should ultimately replace him. From the usual suspects, to the highly unlikely, there have been a lot of names tossed out there. And, while I would agree that some of them truly would make great replacements for Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, I think there is one great candidate who has so-far been overlooked.
My vote is for Mo Rocca.
While many of you may be familiar with him, from his current positions contributing to CBS This Morning, to perhaps his shows on the Cooking Channel, let's all remember that he got his start at the Daily Show.
I think Mo Rocca would come closest to maintaining the high level of commentary mixed with satire and nuance that we all grew to love and expect from Jon Stewart.
In addition to his TV credentials, Rocca has numerous other acting and reporting credits that showcase his talents.
Furthermore, having hosted quite a few shows, I definitely feel that he has shown that he has the experience to anchor a show like the Daily Show.
Finally, he has demonstrated that he is not intimidated by the complexities it takes to report on our political system in an entertaining yet informative manner.
Now, whoever ultimately replaces Jon Stewart, I don't think we should expect them to come close to living up to his shadow. Not at first. But then again, let's not forget that Stewart himself began his tenure with very little fanfare.
But if anyone can eventually grow to provide the same level of commentary we now get from Stewart and few else, I think Mo Rocca has the potential to come closest to achieving that goal.
