Mike Pence has signed the anti-gay Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which gives businesses the right to turn away not just LGBT customers, but anyone they felt their religion gives them a right to discriminate against. Hotels, restaurants, bakeries, grocery stories, taxis...anyone who has a business can decide to turn people away who they do not like, and the law will now be on their side.
I'd like to think that the courts will overturn it, but if its still the same ultra-conservative, pro-religious court that decided the Hobby Lobby case and Greece vs. Galloway, I'm not sure. The only surefire way we can make an impact is to boycott the state, which will help show other states this is not the path to go down.
As a community, we have to take a stand. I hereby pledge:
1. To not step foot in the state until the law is repealed or ruled unconstitutional.
2. To not by anything online if the shipping address is from Indiana.
3. To support Democratic candidates for Governor and for the state legislature, to replace all the Republicans who supported this bad law (no Democrats voted for it.)
4. To share my disapproval of this bill, and my decision to boycott Indiana, on social media and to talk in person with as many people as possible, especially those who live in Indiana and who can make the most impact.
Some organizations, including Gencon, the nation's largest gaming convention, have already threatened to boycott. This is a good sign. Let's keep up the pressure. Share and reblog this message. Share your supportive thoughts below.
