I never post here, but I was sitting in the laundromat and this came to me.
If your religion says you cannot serve a GLBT person in your restaurant, your religion is saying that GLBT persons don't deserve to eat.
If your religion says you cannot rent or sell housing to GLBT persons, your religion is saying that GLBT persons don't deserve to have a roof over their heads.
If your religion says you cannot employ a GLBT person, your religion is saying that they can't have a job.
If your religion is saying that, your religion is FUCKED(1) and you need to think very hard about who you're actually worshiping, because Jesus said nothing about this kind of discrimination. He certainly didn't say to go get a law passed to protect you while you discriminate against your fellow GLBT persons in basic life functions.
A scripture reading below the squiggle.
Now hear the word of the Lord (Matthew 25:34-40, NRSV):
34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,[g] you did it to me.’
(1) The word "skubala" or "shit" (bowlderized to "rubbish" by translators) is used in the letter to the Philippians (3:8) to describe how the writer feels about everything else in comparison to Christ. I think it's appropriate to used "FUCKED" here to describe the alleged Christians who want the law to protect them in their discrimination, when their religion says nothing of the sort.
