Here's the lede from BBC News:
The Iranian navy has seized a US cargo ship and escorted it to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, media reports say.
There has been no official confirmation of the incident from either Iranian or American officials.

Other reports say shots were fired, and that the Iranians say the ship has trespassed in Iranian waters. I'm guessing this is not a military ship, but the sketchy reports so far have not clarified that.
UPDATE: This story was broken by the Saudi news outfit Al Arabiya, which reported that shots were fired: http://english.alarabiya.net/...
I know this is a miserable little squib diary, but I really gulped to see the headline. I'm still hoping the nuclear deal with Iran can be finalized.
UPDATE2: Thanks to jrooth for a comment below that indicates clearly (to me at least) that the ship is not really a "U.S." ship at all.
UPDATE3: The Times of Israel is reporting that the U.S. Navy dispatched a destroyer and an aircraft to monitor the situation. http://www.timesofisrael.com/...
