You may not have noticed, but Hillary’s already got a fight on her hands. No… Gov. O’Malley hasn’t declared yet – he said he won’t say whether he’s in or out until the end of next month. No other Democrat has jumped into the race beyond Webb saying he’s exploring things.
This opponent is someone you know well. In fact, we’ve watched their attacks on Hillary and Bill Clinton since they first hit the national scene in the early 90s, started by Karl Rove and his pals. Now Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers hare leading the battle, and they’re holding auditions to see who the GOP nominee will be in 2016. The winner of these auditions will be a grand prize of as much as $100 million and a mighty organization behind them.
The fact that the New York Times has joined forces with the fear-mongers at Fox News doesn’t help.
This is one of my pictures from the Harkin Steak Fry in Indianola IA last September!
Make the jump, to find out how we can help beat these SOB's and their lies.
It’s great to see that people are excited about Hillary’s second run for the White House, and cheer everything she says and does – the excitement is growing and I can see it as they share articles on Facebook and the blogs and hear folks talk about how excited they are with their friends - and that’s all great. But I get the sense that people think that we don’t need to get busy – raise money – organize in our communities just yet.
Hillary’s ramping up her campaign – in large part due to the efforts of Ready for Hillary and their 4 million supporters. She’s got the first 4 primary and caucus states fully staffed, and there are organizers in all 50 states (territories to come). Part of this ramp-up means she needs to raise money – LOTS of money – to pay the rent for office space, the phone bills and staff salaries. These kids can’t live on donated pizza and the office space isn’t free – these bills have got to be paid.
THAT’s where we come in.
The press keep pretending that Hillary and her supporters are acting as if she’s “inevitable” – that she’s got this thing in the bag. At least as far as the primaries are concerned. And even though she’s not in a tight race for the nomination at this point, there’s no guarantee that some opponent won’t emerge and give her a serious contest between now and the convention. Either way, Hillary’s got to not only go on defense against the GOP scandal-machine, but she has to go on offense and get her message out to the voters.
And as you know – THAT TAKES MONEY.
Hillary’s finance committee is holding briefings for her HillStarters all over the country in the next few weeks. I signed on and have committed to raising $27,000 by mid-May – that’s the equivalent of 10 friends maxing out at $2,700 each. Now I don’t know about you but I don’t really run in the circles where my friends can write checks for $2,700 in one go. So this is going to take a bunch of smaller donations.
So far friends have written $20, $50 and $100 checks or donated that amount through my HillStarters fundraising page. I’m a long way from meeting my goal but this is going to be a long campaign – I know I’ll eventually get there and will – hopefully – get an invite to an event or two with our champion.
SO FRIENDS – if you’re thinking of donating to help our champion beat back the smear-mongers at Fox and the New York Times – if you’ve participated in the chats started by my posts here on DailyKos or other sites – if you’re chomping at the bit to get started on the door knocking or phone-banking but there isn’t much of that going on yet in your community, here’s what you can do to help instead.
DONATE to help Hillary put this campaign into high gear.
Her campaign Chair John Podesta, and her day-to-day manager Robbie Mook have made it clear this is going to be a lean and mean team. Lower salaries. No phones (VOIP only). Millions of volunteer hours. Shorter list of what gets expense (ie no cab rides) and even little things got zapped (no business cards). They know that every dollar not spent needlessly is as good as a dollar raised. They also know the money’s got to last through next July.
I may not get to attend the fundraisers with Hillary in the DC area on April 30th – and I may not even make the goal in time to attend the fundraisers summit in NYC in Mid-May. But every dollar we raise together helps to strengthen Hillary’s campaign and it’s all in a good cause.
So I hope you’ll go to my HillStarter’s page and kick in what you can. I’m still working part-time but this is important enough to me to where my family's kicked in a fair bit already. I hope you’ll join me! Thanks!
PS:
MESSAGE ME if you’re interested in getting info about the fundraisers here in the DC area on the 30th. I have some details and can alert the finance team to put you on the list if you buy your ticket via my HillStarters page. But they need the money by the end of the day today so we’ll need to act fast if you’re going to join the fun! I may not get to go but I hope you DO!
