There was also a time when Paul Tsongas was running against Bill Clinton. And Paul Tsongas was my man in that race. (I will also confess to supporting Bill Bradley, which I might explain in a footnote that includes why Shirley Chisholm excited me.)
I remember watching Tsongas host a town hall meeting, and he was interrupted by a person from Act-Up. And my thought was oh no-- because I did remember the testy exchange Bill Clinton had with an Act-Up member on the campaign trail.
But to my surprise, the Act-Up member in the audience wanted to present Paul Tsongas with an Act-Up t-shirt, in thanks for his support.
I marveled that a non-telegenic candidate exuded so much soul.
As the primaries dragged on, it was apparent Tsongas could not compete in the horse race. (I did calculate at one point, if Tsongas had become president, he would have died exactly at the end of his first term.)
It is quite apparent on this site, and on many other sites, that myself, a news junkie from grade school, can see Bernie Sanders is getting more press than the Presumed Frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination. The PTB on this site seem to want to assure us--sometimes with a magnanimous gesture towards Sanders "elevating the rhetoric" in the race, but wink-winking HRC is in the bag.
Can you sense how there is a consensus that we are long overdue in dealing with climate change issues; that our attention on that issue should have been focused long ago? And would you really accept some compromise on that? My suspicion is that HRC is gonna run/govern that way.
State of Emergency, as Bjork would sing.
Other who have posted on this blog have mentioned its origin in Howard Dean politics and most especially, to my memory, that it rejected the Iraq War II (and Josh @ TPM fell for "The Gathering Storm" bullshit)
Dare to "disturb the universe."
