Ted Cruz should probably rethink any future plans he has as a stand-up comedian, because humor clearly is not his thing. You would think that the blowback after his extremely poorly timed joke about Joe Biden in the wake of his son's death, he would have perhaps taken the hint not to make jokes about current events, but this is Ted we're talking about. Nope, Ted being Ted, here we go again:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) dropped a few gun control jokes during his latest swing through Iowa, days after the shooting deaths of nine people in a Charleston, South Carolina, church.
"You know the great thing about the state of Iowa is, I'm pretty sure you all define gun control the same way we do in Texas -- hitting what you aim at," Cruz said at a town hall meeting Friday in Red Oak.
Ha ha, Ted! Such a kidder! I'm sure those folks in Charleston would join in...were they still capable of it.
But Ted wasn't done. When confronted by reporters later (and to Ted's credit, this time he didn't slink away like a coward when confronted with his actions), Ted gave a typical gun control duck and dodge and pinned it all on those mean Democrats:
Cruz did not mention the mass shooting during the town hall meeting Friday, but when prompted by reporters later said Democrats were using the event as an excuse to take away Second Amendment rights.
"It's sad to see the Democrats take a horrific crime and try to use it as an excuse, not to go after people with serious mental illness or people who are repeat felons or criminals, but instead try to use it as an excuse to take away Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens," he told a group of reporters.
But what about racism, you ask? Well, Ted had the dodge for that too:
Asked why it has been difficult for some Republicans to acknowledge the racial aspect of the incident, Cruz said he didn't accept the premise of the question.
"It appears to be racially driven from what it was reported this strange man said, and a racial hate crime is horrific, any hate crime is horrific," he said. "I don't think we should be using this tragedy to try and divide people and to try and seek partisan advantage. I think we should be praying for those who lost loved ones in this horrific murder."
Yes, you heard that. Ted Cruz doesn't want to try and divide people and seek partisan advantage. To try and even comprehend the hypocrisy of that statement coming out of his mouth is enough to destroy your brain
Scanners style.
I think, perhaps, in the wake of this, Rick Perry's "accident," JEB!'s feigned ignorance, Huckleberry's "heritage," and others, perhaps 2016 GOP hopefuls should just shut up and not comment on Charleston at all. Leave it to the likes of this woman and this man to talk about such things, as they clearly know what the situation is. It'll be better for them and less offensive to the rest of us.
Yeah, and racism is no longer a problem in American. Unlike Fox News, I don't believe in fairy tales.
