Last month, an anti-Islam rally in Phoenix, organized by a self-proclaimed set of "true Americans" received a lot of attention. Thankfully, there was no violence, and the "patriots" were greeted by a large counter-protest.
Now it appears that the bigots have set their sights on Tucson, and have organized an anti-Islam rally outside the Tucson Islamic Center on Saturday, July 18.
For the upcoming “Let Freedom Ring Freedom of Speech Rally,” organizer Dean Remington has invited people he calls “true Americans.” He’s calling on “patriots,” “militias,” “motorcycle clubs,” “preppers,” “sovereign citizens,” “and all who would like to voice a concern that Islam is not a religion of peace and the mosques in America are indoctrination centers for Jihad” to protest “activities that threaten America and its citizens our families and economy.”
Hopefully, the proximity of the Islamic Center to the University of Arizona means that there will be a loud and vigorous counter-protest waiting to meet the racists and show solidarity with the people attending services at the mosque. Unfortunately, the protest is scheduled at the same time Netroots Nation will be going on in Phoenix, and so it will be difficult for many Arizona Kossacks to help.
