I have message for those who still insist on flying that dreadful Confederate Stars and Bars flag:
Y'all lost the war. Get over it.
The Confederacy was ugly. It was inhumane. It is a blight on our history that we are still dealing with as a society. Every time I see that Stars and Bars flag, it enrages me that they used the same color scheme as that of the real flag of the United States of America. The Confederate version represents hate, oppression, and cruelty beyond measure. The South was not fighting for "states rights" nor should someone fly that flag because family members fought under that banner. We all know the South started that war to continue enslaving blacks to pick their crops and to promote the spread of the practice. Insisting on waving the flag of a long-defunct, discredited and shameful pseudo-nation is beneath us all. It should be ripped down from the South Carolina Capitol grounds. Its only real place is alongside other relics, like worthless Confederate dollar bills, a cotton gin and a petticoat.
Our nation does not need to be inflicted with having to look at a desecration of the colors red, white and blue. The only flag with those colors on any South Carolina public space should be that of the Stars and Stripes. That is our national heritage, what our forefathers and grandfathers fought for, and we need to rid ourselves of an emblem that stands for tyranny and treason.
Give some comfort to those families of the fallen in Charleston. Just take it down. Now.
