There have been many diaries about Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and some very passionate feelings have come out. Some are factual and some are a bit too much on the conspiracy theory side. The Daily Kos is a site that allows us to express our thoughts and beliefs and many of the diarists are well informed and have so much to say that we need to hear.
However, lately I have seen a nasty spirit in some of the diaries. We each have our preferred candidate and I believe Hillary and Bernie are both very fine candidates. The infighting that is going on in the diaries is, I think, the wrong way for us to behave. When we start the mudslinging at the candidate we do not prefer we sound like the Teapublicans and Faux News. Their way is to lie and control. Let's not act the same way. We can have our preferences and that is fine but there is no need to try to cut down the other candidate. It is much more persuasive if we focus on the strengths of our preferred candidate. That helps us to focus on the real issues and spotlights the differences. The childish bickering that has been going on distracts from the issues and becomes offensive to many. That will not change my mind but will cause me to dig in my heels for my preferred candidate.
It is all right to have differences of opinion but we must respect other's rights to their opinions. Conspiracy theories, insults and bickering does not respect others and becomes a way to control others rather than to invite them into the conversation so that we can have real dialogue about the issues. Nastiness builds up walls and stops the conversation completely. Let's act like adults and show respect for each other.
I have my preferences and reasons for those preferences but if you want me to listen to you about your preferences and reasons treat me with respect and approach me with well informed facts. Don't try to hit me with a sledge hammer.
