Fast Track or TPA essentially gives the green light to TPP.
The New Triumvirate: Obama hunkers down with McConnell and Boehner to get this thing through Congress. Yes, something is wrong with this picture.
Call Representatives to support or urge their NO vote. This is it.
Who would Fast Track an agreement shrouded in secrecy? This is NOT what democracy looks like.
The phone number to call House representatives is 877-762-8762 If you don't know your Representative's name, simply give your zip code, or enter it, and the switchboard will connect you.
Numbers of constituents who call, or e-mail their Representatives to urge a NO vote on Fast Track is important. Robert Reich said that phone calls were making a difference.
You need only register your opinion to your Representative in a few words--VOTE NO on Fast Track- But if you like, you can add your reasons. It's important to know:
---Fast Track will allow the public no view of the text before the vote and their Representatives will have no power to amend it.
---A vote for Fast Track assures TPP will be passed.
---A vote against Fast Track is not a vote against Fair trade.
Emphasize that TPP is a massive bill which has to do with far more than trade. Representatives usually do not want to be seen as being against fair trade.
--Fast Track will NOT "constrain" Presidential power. It will do the opposite, allowing no input from Congress; no public release of the text until 30 days passes, when the President already has his authority.
--Fast Track is very rarely used. To use it on a such a far-reaching treaty, which represents years of work from multinational corporations and their lobbyists, is ridiculous!
It was used to pass NAFTA, much smaller in comparison, and that is very much regretted. TPP encourages the outsourcing of US jobs, as NAFTA did.
--The text of TPP will NOT be released to the public once Fast Track is passed, despite untrue claims. It will be released 30 days after Congress has surrendered its authority and responsibility to the President.
Lori Wallach, Global Citizens Watch on Trade: Response on Twitter to Ryan's claim that TPP text will be made public before Fast Track vote: #TPA keeps the #TPP a secret until 30 days AFTER completion! #NoFastTrack"
--Studies have debunked the early claims that TPP gives us a leg up against China, or that it will help national security. Neither are seen to be true.
--------------
TPP is a vast and dangerous treaty, opposed by groups across the spectrum of American life from labor to farmers to nurses, to small business owners, and on issues of the internet, food standards, challenges to our national, statewide and local laws and regulations, and much more. It will increase privatization.
In fact, TPP is favored by those who wrote it--the country's multinational corporations. And those who stand to benefit from them. And that is NOT most of America.
