Mr. Young has put out a lot of music over the years. Some of it seminal works like Ohio and Heart of Gold. Some not to my taste. Say what you want, but Neil has always been Neil. Years ago, after not listening to Neil's work for awhile he blew me away with Rockin in the Free World.
On the way home today, listening to my satellite radio I had that feeling again when on comes a new Neil Young tune, Big Box. It will be on his upcoming 36th Studio record The Monsanto Years. And, I assume Monsanto won't be playing this record at their shareholders meeting......
I really don't have much to add to Mr. Young's lyrics...a sample follows.....
Wonderco got in money trouble had to break the law
Had to balance the fine against the benefit to all
Made a business decision to pay the fine and break the law
Too big to fail, too rich for jail
He can live without so why can't we
After all they're just like you and me
They cast their votes and no one gets excited
Because they are Citizens United
Corporations have feelings, corporations have soul
That's why they're like people just harder to control
They don't want to fall, so when they fall, they fall on you
Too big to fail, too rich for jail
I suggest taking a listen yourself and form your own opinion:
Big Box
After Big Box they played another new tune:
A Rock Star Bucks a Coffee Shop
Guess he isn't a big fan of Seattle's best....
He is unique, and he is still Rockin the Free World.
