Just a quick little diary about songs that are so good at what they do, you experience them with all
your senses.
I've put together a collection here, add your favorites.
I'll start this off with the song that inspired this diary for me.
Born on the Bayou. It's tough to beat in this respect that's why I place it at number one. I don't
know if it's the brilliance of Creedence Clearwater Revival or the song, but before I knew better I
thought Green river was in the south somewhere. I chose Born on the Bayou because you couldn't
get more swampy if you tried.
And as this video attests at least one other person is in agreement with my description.
I thought about it and there are so many other songs to pick. Polk Salad Annie which in itself can
define swamp. Also the Muddy Waters song, Deep Down in Florida. When I listen to that Muddy
Waters song i can hear the grass hiss. But lets move on from the swamp.
Well OK. Tell me what you think.
Lets switch gears here.
This song is drenched in the romance of sex with all it's accoutrements.
This song is sexy too, but in a different way. No fooling around with toys on this song.
"Geeze I love this song." Crash Davis
Lets get eerie and spooky, cynical and dangerous, provocative and evocative, mysterious and
moody.
This is a version you might not have heard since the album came out. You know when FM radio
stations used to play the whole album so the DJ's could get stoned. This is my favorite Elton John
album.
Here's the title track from my favorite Steely Dan album. Unfortunately it's so timeless they could
have recorded it yesterday.
When this album came out I couldn't get enough of it. I played it over and over. This song is a
war movie to me.
Another one of my favorites from my youth. I couldn't get enough of this album either. The Orson
Welles intro was not on the original vinyl album. It was added later on a remaster.
Lets find a happy place maybe in a field or meadow. Or paradise.
A while ago I was driving in the car with my mom and she said, "Don't talk, just listen to this
beautiful music." So I say don't think, just listen to this beautiful music.
I'm going to end it here sort of where I started. I think I might make this a series. I left out a lot. But
if I do make it a series I'll get to yours. These are a few of the songs that transport me away from it
all, as well as haunt me, but in a good way. They're all perfect in illuminating their subject matter. I
hope you enjoyed it.
Au revoir.
