When Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President, comedians rejoiced. Jon Stewart compared him to a monkey throwing poop. (Don't be mad at the monkey, be mad at the people admiring the poop-throwing). Letterman came out of retirement with a Top 10 List.
But Trump is not a joke. He is the embodiment of today's Republican Party.FOX News Poll shows that Trump is now the front runner for the Republican nomination. Not Jeb! Bush, whom he beats by 4 points. (In fact Jeb! is in third place behind Scott Walker)
No one can keep Trump out of the Fox News debate now. So what does this say about the GOP?
1. They will lose big in 2016. Assuming the Democrats don't nominate a buffoon like Webb.
2. Anti-immigrant racists dominate the GOP. The Establishment likes to pretend otherwise, but their people have spoken.
3. Trump may not be a total idiot. Or possibly, the GOP rank and file is a lot dumber than we thought.
4. If the Party bosses try to keep Trump out, there will be a rebellion. Expect Confederate Flag wavers storming the convention.
5. Jeb! will receive the bulk of Trump's attention. Therefore the other candidates will get crowded out. Somehow, Jeb! is more hispanic in Trump's eyes than Rubio or Cruz.
Comedians will have a field day. Or year. Will Stewart postpone his retirement?
