I know several of my fellow Kossites who loved me for many years are hating me now because of my anti-Bern diaries. That’s cool, politics is tough stuff. However, I thought it time that I tell you why I’m actively working so hard against Bern. No, I’m not working for Hillary and no, I’m not a troll. I will admit, however that I’m a card-caring Obama-loving cheerleader.
My five reasons:
Reason #1: Many average Americans who don’t understand politics and are easily fooled with labels. Cons are quiet on him now because they are hoping he can damage Clinton enough to win the primary. However, during the general, we would literally see a billion-dollar anti socialism campaign that could destroy the Democratic Party for decades to come.
Reason #2: Every Dem who endorses Bern will be labeled a Socialist. I can just imagine my conservative Democratic Senator Bill Nelson being asked a question like this: “Senator Nelson, do you support the Socialist Policies that are espoused by Senator Sanders? We know the policies are really supported by the majority of Americans but Bernie would be so easy to demagogue.
Reason #3: While Hillary is accumulating hundreds of endorsements, not a single sitting congress-person, governor or senator has endorsed Bernie. Why? Because they don’t want to be caught dead supporting "socialism."
Reason #4: Every much needed progressive policy will be labeled as "Socialism" with a big "S." I kid you not; $15.00 an hour would become socialism. A single-payer health plan would be dubbed socialism. The fruit hangs too low and we’ve not seen the barrage of attacks on everything we believe if Bernie becomes our standard-bearer.
The entire progressive agenda wouldn’t move forward, it would move decades backwards because moderate/conservative Dems would bolt and republicans would look like the saviors of the world they always pretend to be.
Reason #5: Brother’s aren’t standing in the rain for Bern…not in the inner-city South, not in the Midwest...not in the East. Why? Because many of us have seen enough from Bern regarding our issues and have already tuned him out. He's the source of jokes now on Twitter and Black radio.
So, if the question is whether I think Bernie is a good man with policies that would benefit average Americans; the answer would be an unequivocal yes. However, politically speaking, I believe a Bernie win in the primary would literally destroy the progressive agenda for decades to come.
If Bernie didn’t label himself a socialists, I’d be the first to lead the charge but him. However, that was his choice and he’ll have to live with it.
So while I respect those of you who support him, I’m actively rooting for Bernie to lose so "progressivsm" can march forward another eight years. I know my opinions are not popular right now, but absolutely sincere.
These are my thoughts, thanks for reading.
