Last week, I published a diary titled, DNC Accused of Rigging Debate Schedule to Benefit Hillary Clinton. It generated a great deal of discussion with nearly 900 comments being posted. If you missed it, you might want to take a quick glance to bring you up to date on why I'm posting this diary.
Way back in 2008 we had a total of 26 Democratic Presidential Debates, with the first debate commencing on April 26, 2007.
Here we are in 2016 and this is the current Democratic Presidential Debate Schedule. The DNC has authorized a total of 6 debates for this election. As you can see from that schedule, not a single debate has yet been scheduled. No date, no time, no venue and no news organizations have yet been announced.
And here we are on July 23rd, 2015, the 8th Anniversary of the 5th debate of the 2008 Presidential Election.
I sincerely hope that I do not have the opportunity to write any additional volumes for this diary series, but I have a feeling this will likely not be the last. In August of 2007, there were 4 more Democratic Primary Debates with the next on August 4th, 2007.
In just 2 weeks, the Republican party will be holding their first presidential debate of the 2016 election, and yet, the Democrats, the DNC and Debbie Wassermann Schultz have not even scheduled our first debate.
Presidential debates are important. They allow each of our candidates to express their views and proposals and allows voters to compare and contrast those views with those of the other candidates. They also provide an opportunity for lesser known candidates to introduce themselves to voters. This helps educate voters and assists them in making an educated decision on who they want to represent them.
I intend to continue to write one of these diaries on the anniversary of each 2008 Democratic Primary Debate until the DNC, the Democratic party and those in charge finally and officially, schedule the 2016 debates.
Could you help bear me the burden of having to continue to write these diaries by using the links below to send an email to the DNC and Debbie Wassermann Shultz demanding that our primary debates be scheduled immediately? And you could also help by clicking the links and adding your name to the petitions and sharing those petitions with your Facebook friends?
We have a right to hear our presidential candidates debate their views and policies and the first debate can't happen soon enough! Thanks for your help!
You can reach the DNC at their website Democratic National Committee
You can find the email address for Debbie Wasserman Schultz here.
Here is a link to the Credo Action petition Tell the Democratic National Committee: Let the Candidates debate!
There is also a change.org petition you can sign Give Senator Bernie Sanders a Fair Chance by Increasing Number of Sanctioned Debates
And for you Facebook fans, you might want to check out this page which is organizing a protest at the DNC demanding more debates.
Informed debate is at the heart of our democracy! The integrity of our election process is at stake!
Minor Update: I neglected to mention that I have yet to receive a reply to my email last week to the DNC and Debbie Wassermann Schultz. If/when I receive one, I'll include the response in a future volume or, if worthy, a diary of it's own.
