The 2016 election is like taking a trip down a turnpike while you're hungry. There's a rest stop conveniently located a mile away; its vending machines have a suspect 3-day old tuna sandwich on white labeled "republican", and there's a Sbarro. Sbarro isn't the best pizza, but it's a conveniently placed, known commodity that won't make you sick.
Hillary is Sbarro, a popular brand. It's recently added new toppings, because word is getting out about a mom and pop spot off the next exit, Bernie's. There's a rumor a Wawa is opening soon (betraying my Philly roots) in the next town over, called Biden. Those choices are better than that vile tuna, but you'd have to risk driving a while longer for what you really need.
Your stop could be a meaningful experience on your journey - or at the very least someone might make a great hoagie that's mildly fresher than stale pizza (okay, I'll end the analogies in a moment). You can eat something just to keep you driving, but leaving yourself wanting more, and feeling unfulfilled. This election presents a similar choice.
None of us want a republican to win and will support the nominee - regardless of who it is. We do have a choice about what fuels our forward momentum. Make yours wisely.
I want a candidate who isn't just 'pragmatic'; otherwise, 'good enough.' I want a bold vision that resonates and people will listen to - a candidate who's not afraid to 'put it out there' on single payer, corruption, closing private prisons, keystone xl, taxes, and a host more issues. We won't get what we want if our standard bearer is afraid to even ask for it.
There is no 'one' chosen democrat who has a secret winning formula to win or superb leadership skills that precludes competition for the nomination. I'm not shopping for the known commodity. I support Bernie Sanders.
