Since this is my week to host Brothers and Sisters, I was racking my brain earlier to come up with an opening topic. And what did I have? Nuttin'.
I have two blogs of my own that I try to keep relatively fresh, plus I'm starting a new site devoted to progressive issues in our city, on top of my regular day job which ALSO involves some measure of creativity. I was just fresh out of Muse, as they say.
Then it struck me. "It's in the title," I said to myself.

Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth, and healing is welcome.
Like many of you, I've been watching the ongoing pie fights with tiredness and resignation. Having lived through a number of presidential and off-year cycles, I knew this was coming. Even so, the level of heated debate and hair-on-fire commentary has seemed worse this time.
That's why I want to point out something: the title of this series. Yes, it has its roots in various religions that address each other as Brother and Sister. But that fact does not, and should not, obscure another important point:
We are all brothers and sisters as fellow Kossacks. At another level, we are all brothers and sistems as persons working for positive change. And at the most fundamental level, we are all brothers and sisters as fellow members of the human race. We are all brothers and sisters.
So, in the midst of the pie fights and pie wars and pie Armageddons, let's hold on to some perspective and remember that in the end, all of us on this spinning ball are in it together. All of us need grace, peace, a calm presence, and a kind word.
Namaste.
