We all have them in our lives and deserve to be recognized. Let me tell you about mine.
I met Cody on a platform called Second Life. We roleplayed together and developed a friendship. When he lost his job and couldn't find one, I suggested he move in with my sister and me where we were living at the time. The area was booming and had lots of jobs. He did.
Shortly afterwards, we moved from my cramped apartment to a house that was a ways out of town. My sister and I were heading to run errands and hit a patch of ice. The car was totaled. My sister broke C6 and C7 and has since developed fibromyalgia.
They had to cut me out of the car. I broke my right arm and required surgery to repair it. I also had a skull fracture with residual memory problem. My left shoulder was dislocated with broken bones in it as well as nerve damage that makes it basically unusable. I was in the hospital for 3 months with complications including needing temporary dialysis and IV antibiotics for an infection in my left arm.
My sister and I are both permanently disabled.
He could have left. He didn't have to stay around and take care of us, but he did. He's 30 years old but is willing to work part time and help take care of us, doing the things we can't. Neither of us can drive anymore. He takes us to our doctor's appointments, helps with our shopping. Currently, he needs dental work but we have to save up for it since his can only work part time and my sister and I are on fixed incomes. He's there every day for us and I feel blessed that he came into our lives.
All of us have unsung heroes in our lives. Who's yours?
Note: I have started a GoFundMe for his dental work but don't feel obligated. http://www.gofundme.com/...
