With the advent of Apple's ios 9 update, there is now some fancy ad blocking software on those mobile devices. This is going to be a problem for many internet sites that rely on ad revenues for their sites.
There has been sophisticated ad blocking software for desktop browsers for year, but the Apple announcement is a game changer since they just made it harder to deliver ads to clients.
I have had an iPad for many years but in the last year or more I have found it is almost useless for many sites because of the aggressive ads. Some sites have the ads click footprint so large, it is impossible to not click on an ad. Other sites, try to deliberately make the next button for a slide presentation take you to an ad, and make it harder to locate the actual next button.
Plus, pages load much slower will all of those ads.
Broadcast tv has existed on ads since it began, but tv has had to adopt the streaming no-ad model in recent years. Even hulu just came out with a no ad version of their product for just $4 extra per month. I gladly pay the $4 to avoid what seems to be a non ending set of ads.
I have mixed feelings about the implications for the internet of ad blocking software. When ads become so aggressive that you can't use a site, perhaps it is just better to go full-on paywall.
How does everybody else feel about mobile ad blocking software?
