Congressman Peter King (R-NY) was recently quoted in a Politico article saying “…the crazies have taken over the party”
I don't know what goes on in your private GOP meetings but the reason the "crazies have taken over" is because the majority of non-crazies have not stood up to them. Out of fear of being primaried and losing their elected seats, the sane members of congress, when in public, just go along with the crazies because for some reason that is seen as a better option than working with the President or opposition to find compromise.
Look at your other part time crazy Bobby Jindal who recently criticized Donald Trump and called him a carnival act. Has Jindal looked in the mirror lately. He IS Donald Trump. This Rhodes Scholar speaks untruths and political malarkey just like Trump then wonders why The Donald even has standing in the GOP.
In the movie, An American President, there was an exchange between President Sheppard and his Chief of Staff Rothschild:
Lewis Rothschild: People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.
President Andrew Shepherd: Lewis, we've had Presidents who were beloved who couldn't find a coherent sentence with two hands and a flashlight. People don't drink the sand 'cause they're thirsty. They drink the sand 'cause they don't know the difference.
And that's the same here. If you let the crazies speak to the masses and you sometimes even repeat what the crazies say because it is politically expedient in the short term, then your supporters start to believe you. They will drink the sand because they don't know the difference.
Ever wonder why so many GOP members think Obama was NOT born in the USA nor that he is a Christian? By the way, if either were true, how does it not make him an eligible person for President? But I digress. They think these things because the crazy leaders like Ted Cruz himself paradoxically, allow their supporters to believe this.
So Mr. King, it's really up to you. You can allow the crazies to take over the GOP and the Speaker's Chair and just go whine to the press or you can start being a leader and start educating the masses that put the crazies in your caucus. Because if you don't, you too will someday pull a Boehner and just say "Fuck it, drink your stupid sand. I quit!"
