I do not know if I could truly understand the depth of grieving of those who have lost a loved one to violence. The sorrow I've experienced from family members dying was difficult enough when they passed from natural causes. But, the anger I would feel if someone deliberately killed my loved one-- well, I fear, forgiveness would be a long time coming, if ever.
Yet, there are those among us who have that grace within them to forgive. The family members from the Charleston, S.C. tragedy, perhaps, are freshest in our minds. In Milwaukee, Mary Kay Balchunas, is another.
I was so moved by her story that I felt compelled to share it. Maybe sharing it will help others draw strength from her example.
