Forgive my rant. This pretty represents my feelings from the get go on this topic and are not a result of the amount of press or attacks from the right. Try as I might, I just can't get past Hillary's private e-mail.
The reasons are many fold:
1. It was an ludicrously obvious and real security risk.
2. Anyone who has ever had a job, knows that work e-mails are legal documents, property of the employer (in this case the Federal government), and are only properly handled through the employer's mail system.
3. Personal convenience and prior accomplishments are not a sufficient rationales to ignore these two fundamental facts.
4. Quibbling on details about whether anything was confidential at the time you received it, copies were retained on other servers, etc. is not good enough. It only makes you look insulated from common sense and more steeped in a sense of entitlement. Guess what, I suspect that we'll find out there were confidential documents that passed through the server, but if not you were really just lucky.
Hillary has done a enormous amount of good service for the country and I am thankful for that. But the mail server affair is so much a part of that most frustrating element of the Clinton's mindset, I can't help but wish she were not running. It is time for the next generation.
I'll vote for Hillary if she is our candidate. The GOP is not an alternative. If it makes anyone feel better, I suspect everyone will be so tired of the story in another 3-6 months, it will have limited, if any, impact on the election.
