The North Carolina Educational lottery will no longer be contributing to teachers’ salaries starting in 2016.
Lottery funds which were originally earmarked for teaching positions in North Carolina
The Republican controlled North Carolina Legislator has chosen to divert lottery funds to non-instructional positions, like bus drivers and custodians, both being considered for privatizing, will receive the funding.
The remaining money was divided between school construction, teacher’s assistants, Pre-K programs and college scholarships.

So goes the never-ending Republican led effort to kill public schools in North Carolina and to bring in Private Charter Schools for max profits from public funds even though It looks like Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest wants to pick and choose his data. Forest rejected a report showing that charter schools in the state are disproportionally white and wealthy. That’s not what the light guv wanted to hear. He rejected the report as too negative and convinced the State Board of Education to refrain from sending the information to the legislature despite a January 15 deadline.
