Like many of you I was inspired by Obama’s speech tonight. I truly believe that we need to work together to make our political discussions more productive. I also believe that we need to make our elections more transparent and make sure every vote counts. I certainly believe that we shouldn’t be demonizing people based on their religion or ethnicity.
It was a great speech.
There is one point of disagreement I have with the President, however. We should not support the TPP. In fact, we as a country need to understand that each and every one of these trade agreements has done the opposite of the values our President described in his speech: Democracy, equal voice, transparency, every vote matters?
The TPP, like NAFTA and every other of the trade agreements before it, does more to undermine our rights as citizens than… well, frankly, anything else that came before. Corporations and private interests can now sue public governments in private courts for billions of taxpayer dollars. These courts are extremely private, manned by corporate lawyers. This is reality, on the ground now, being proven again and again. “Nice law you got there. It will cost our company a potential 12 billion $. Pay up!”
You want to protect turtles? Pay the corporations. You want clean air? Pay the corporations. Untainted water? We’ll sue you for suggesting the water is not pure.
Just pay the corporations. Why give a fuck?
Because we do.
And it is why i support Bernie.
