I have one ongoing gripe and one generated just a few minutes ago with the email-blast part of Hillary’s campaign.
1. Attn Hillary email writers: I am not your friend. I understand the trend to think of everyone as a friend; Facebook did not start that trend, but it certainly capitalized on the misuse of the word. I also understand the personal appeal of Bill’s friendly approach to people, but being friendly and presuming everyone is a friend are two very different things.
Let’s be clear. I am a voter and a supporter of the party you hope to represent and lead, but I am not your friend. I consider your presumption that I am to be disrespectful of me and the actual friendships I foster in my life. Please come up with a different salutation line for those emails.
2. Subject line in the email I received this morning: “Our girl Hillary needs you right now” — OMG, really? Even Hillary’s closest associates don’t consider her to be a full-grown woman? UGH!!!
Add to that, she’s “our girl”? What, as opposed to her own woman? Stop with the cutesy bullshit and get down to a serious campaign, please.
Subtly minimizing your candidate is not helpful! Minimizing those whom you hope will support and vote for her is also not helpful! Many people may not read your words the way I do, but I can almost guarantee they internalize the same message regardless. It might be more helpful if you approach this campaign, your candidate, and those whose votes you solicit with some importance and as if they are adults.
Please grow up and get with the program.
